The island has launched many initiatives this season to promote and spread the need for physical activities, and also to be seduced by the immense beauty and many tourist attractions on this balcony to the Mediterranean.

Gastronomic weekends

The Gastronomic weekends are the ideal moment to truly savour Formentera and take place the first and second weekend of May. Some of the best restaurants on the island serve traditional menus specially designed for the occasion at a fixed price of just €20. And others offer reinterpretations of typical cuisine with innovative proposals that give flavour to the smallest of the Pityusic Islands.

Cultural events

Lovers of photography and nature have a unique opportunity to capture Formentera’s most beautiful attractions. From April 27 to May 1, the island hosts the seventh edition of the now well-established Formentera Fotográfica festival, a meeting point for contemporary photography professionals and amateurs.

Conferences, workshops, screenings of documentaries, portfolio reviews, and walks around the island to discover each and every one of its secrets. This event is the ideal place to share knowledge and experiences in a relaxed manner as it places particular emphasis on quality training and mutual support.

The plans go beyond photography. ‘Learn by enjoying, creating unique experiences’. This is the philosophy of Formentera 2.0, a multidisciplinary meeting for those curious about digital culture, new technologies and communications that brings together top-level international professionals in a unique and immediate environment like the one offered by the smallest of the Pityusic Islands. The seventh edition runs from May 2-5 and will bring together journalists, communicators, community managers, freelancers, bloggers and others who wish to stay up-to-date with new technologies. An opportunity to open your mind, promote the exchange of ideas and knowledge and see what’s happening in the digital world. An opportunity to connect, share and learn.

This year the island also celebrates the sixth edition of the Formentera Film Festival, an international festival of short films that was started in 2011 by the directors of Lago Film Fest and Mónica Timperi. Its goal and that of the entire team is to turn the island into a space to showcase alternative and independent audiovisual productions from May 16 to 19. The aim is to encourage the circulation of audiovisual works that do not usually enter commercial circuits and show them outdoors in a festive atmosphere.

The fifth edition of the Formentera Jazz Festival, an initiative led by the musician and cultural producer, Maxwell Moya, will also be held from June 6 to 9. This is an eclectic commitment to quality music that goes beyond jazz and has become a platform for many emerging musicians.

Sport in a unique setting

Lovers of walking, running and cycling can make the most of the 32 signposted green routes on the island that together make up more than 100km of connected paths, many of which are accessible by bicycle.
