Buenos Aires presents its tourist intelligence system

The 1st UNWTO World Conference on Smart Destinations took place in Murcia recently and was attended by Mariana Mangiarotti, Managing Director of Market Intelligence and Observatory for the Tourism Authority of Buenos Aires.

Mangiarotti presented Buenos Aires’ new intelligent tourism system, which includes a potential tourism indicator and a Big Data platform, at the “Tourist Intelligence System: Efficiency through Knowledge” round table meeting.

Buenos Aires has become the first American city to develop its own Big Data platform. The Argentine capital can now learn more about consumer trends in the city and carry out market intelligence studies to create more effective promotional actions and discover how to better adjust to the demands of tourists visiting the city.

This complements the information compiled through surveys and other databases that the Tourism Authority of Buenos Aires has been working on for some time now, and the good news is that according to the latest report there’s been a noticeable increase in the number of foreign tourists arriving.

Between November 2016 and January of this year, 562,538 foreign tourists visited the city.

The United States, New Zealand, Australia, Spain and Brazil are the source markets leading this upward trend.

City sights attracting the most visitors include the Colón Theatre, the Puerto Madero district, the Parque Tres de Febrero, the famous Caminito, the old quarter, the National Museum of Fine Arts, the Latin American Art Museum of Buenos Aires (MALBA), the Santísimo Sacramento Basilica and Recoleta Cemetery.
