The Cancun International Music Festival (FIM Cancun) celebrates its 5th edition this year from September 23rd to October 7th. Over 15 days, the city of Cancun will welcome musicians from all over the world who aim to delight the crowds with their music.

The festival started out in 2013 as a way to celebrate Cancun’s cultural diversity through music. Victoria García was the person responsible for launching the event with the support and endorsement of Sergio Alonso, Director of the Canary Islands Conservatory of Music in Spain at the time, and Sebastián Gil, Director of the Maspalomas International Trumpet Fest. Between the three of them, they managed to bring together different sounds from around the world in Cancun, and the rest is history.

FIM Cancun combines both artistic and learning factors with two main programmes, the stage and the academic. The year’s event has 100+ concerts with more than 1300 musicians from different musical backgrounds ranging from classical music right up to pop, and a strong European and Cuban presence. Fans will be treated to performances from the Mexican Women’s Symphony Orchestra, and international acts like the Gipsy Kings, Concha Buika, Pablo Milanés, and the Cuban pianist Isabel Mesa Vega.

The academic programme aims to use music as a learning tool, with educational concerts, workshops, book presentations, and the popular youth trumpet competition. The festival also counts on the support of several local, national and international universities.

And as music brings people together, the festival also has a social programme that will include four concerts in different institutions to provide music to people who for one reason or another cannot attend the other activities during the festival.

In addition to enjoying and learning from the music from different countries, those coming to FIM Cancun will also have the opportunity to visit this famous city. The festival’s various activities will take place in emblematic spots in Cancun like the Palapas Park, the House of Culture, the city’s beaches and theatre hall.

The complete program for the 15 days with all the activities is available on the official FIM Cancun website, and you can also purchase tickets for any of the concerts and workshops.

Each edition of the festival so far has been full of surprises and left the crowds wanting more, and this year looks like it won’t be any different. FIM Cancun goes all out this year to celebrate its fifth edition and promises two weeks of music, learning and fun.
