Father’s Day gift ideas: Get on the wine train

Renfe and the Valladolid Provincial Government are putting the “Wine Train” back on track once again. The programme includes a round trip on an Avant train from Madrid, staged information on the train, a visit to a winery and wine tasting. The campaign which began on February 23 will continue until December is a perfect idea for a Father’s Day gift.

Renfe and the Valladolid Provincial Government put the “Wine Train” back on track once again. This is the second edition of the programme that combines travelling by train with wine tourism. The initiative came up last year in 2018 and materialised in a collaboration agreement signed by both institutions, that are now offering a combined ticket that includes the round-trip on Avant trains between Madrid and Valladolid, staged information on board the train, transfers by bus to the chosen winery, tasting, lunch and a complimentary visit depending on the train timetable.

The train journey and visits to a winery will take place one Saturday each Monday and on public holidays in Madrid starting from February 23 and continuing until December. After February 23, trains will run on March 30, April 27, May 2 & 25, June 29, July 25 & 27, August 31, September 28, October 12, November 9 & 30 and December 6.

Renfe is offering 52 seats on Avant trains departing from Chamartín station in Madrid at 10.15am and arriving in Valladolid at 11.20am, and then on the return leg from Valladolid at 8.35pm and arriving in Madrid at 9.40pm. Passengers can avail of a fixed price which includes a 30% discount.  Tickets are sold as a one-day return, although there’s also the possibility to return the following day, but you must mention this when buying your tickets.

The province of Valladolid is rich in wine culture, with 5 designations of origin, 3 certified wine routes, centuries-old vineyards, internationally renowned wineries, excellent gastronomy, rich heritage, history, impressive castles, monasteries and churches, which all provide for a great experience.

Combined tickets cost €97 for adults and €77 for children and can be booked through the Provincial Government’s website www.provinciadevalladolid.com, or by phoning 983 666 663.
