Original Father’s Day Ideas

Father’s Day (19th March) is just around the corner, with this being an excellent opportunity to bring the whole family together for a celebration. Forget about presents such as ties and handkerchiefs and get your father something original to let him know he’s appreciated. Remember that experiences are more valuable than material goods, with these leaving long-lasting memories.

Here are some ideas for you!

  • For driving fanatics:

If your dad is passionate about cars and has a need for speed, he would love the opportunity to get behind the wheel of a high-end car on an outdoor driving circuit. The Formula GT experience gives your dad the opportunity to drive a Ferrari. Prices range from 49 euros for a single lap in a Ferrari F430 (490bhp) to 359 euros for 5 laps in a Ferrari 488 (670bhp). This highly thoughtful gift idea is also available for other manufacturers such as Lamborghini, Formula GT and Porsche.

  • For contemporary art lovers:

If your Dad is one of those who likes nothing more than to appreciate the work of contemporary artists, look no further than taking him on a trip to the Museo Reina Sofía. There, he will be able to admire its three main collections: ‘La irrupción del siglo XX: utopías y conflictos’ (The Dawn of the Twentieth Century: Modernity, Utopia and Conflict), ‘¿La Guerra ha terminado? Arte en un mundo dividido’ (Is the war over? Art in a divided world) and ‘De la revuelta a la postmodernidad’ (From revolt to postmodernity). These three collections span from 1900 until 1982.

If food is the way to his heart:

If your Dad is a real food lover, then treat him to a surprise meal with an added ‘bonus’ such as a themed restaurant or a meal with a performance. One such example could be the ‘Palacio del Flamenco’ (Barcelona), where you can savour authentic Spanish cuisine while taking in a performance by Flamenco singers, dancers and guitarists, who may even teach you a few steps if you haven’t mastered the art yet. A more exotic option could be ‘Volubilis’, where you can try Maghrebi cooking and enjoy a belly dancing performance. Another possibility could be to take your father to a themed restaurant, such as the original ‘Sana, Sana’, where waiters dress up as doctors in a room full of surgical and laboratory equipment.

  • For book lovers:

A good book can keep your father entertained for hours on end. If he’s into his reading, you must make sure you choose a title wisely. You first need to establish his favourite genre, before asking for a recommendation from any old bookshop. You’ll be surprised at the range of options they give you! If you’re unsure or you want to give your father more than one book, we recommend Finales que merecen una historia’ (Endings that deserve a story) by Albert Espinosa, which is a pleasant book of short stories which heal the soul.

  • For brewers:

If you want your dad to enjoy your present over a long period of time, you should consider getting him a beer dispenser. One which continues to get good reviews is the Krups Heineken draft beer tap, which offers excellent quality and a sleek design at an accessible price. This dispenser can hold 2 litres of beer and is equipped with Peltier Cooling technology. It can be used with over 20 types of beer, both domestic and international, drawing a quality head with optimum texture.

  • For athletes:

When he’s not riding his bike at the top of a mountain or running through the countryside, is he really your dad? You should consider fuelling his passion this Father’s Day. You can choose from an infinite range of possibilities, but you can’t go wrong with some classic gifts such as a pair of trekking shoes, a thermal jacket or some off-road sunglasses.
