Peru gets 22 nominations for the World Travel Awards 2023

Peru and its tourist attractions have obtained 22 nominations in the recent South American edition of the prestigious World Travel Awards (WTA) 2023. The so-called ‘Oscars of Tourism’ by the US newspaper The Wall Street Journal, recognise and celebrate excellence in the global tourism industry and aim to highlight the best destinations and tourism products in different regions of the world.

The Inca architectural jewel, Machu Picchu, is competing in the Best Tourist Attraction category, an award it has won, both regionally and globally, for five consecutive years. Lima, meanwhile, is nominated for Best Urban Destination, Best Cultural City in South America, along with Cusco, and Best Destination for Festivals and Events.

Peru, as a country, obtained nominations in categories such as Best Destination in South America, Leading Adventure Tourism Destination, Best Culinary Destination or Best Destination for Young People, as well as Best Cultural Destination, an award it has won on four occasions, both in the regional and global editions.

For 29 years, the WTAs have annually awarded excellence in all areas of world tourism and are considered a benchmark in the tourism industry. In both the regional and global editions, the winners are chosen through an online vote open to the public. In 2023, voting is open until 9 July via the website www.worldtravelawards.com/vote.

The Caribbean and Americas Awards ceremony will take place on 26 August at the Sandals Grande St Lucian hotel on the Caribbean island of St Lucia.
