The gym on a bus set to revolutionise London

Londoners will soon be able to get fit while commuting to work. The chain of gyms 1Rebel has announced plans to launch a fleet of buses with a suite of spinning bikes so passengers travelling on the city’s most popular commuter routes can fit in a training routine on their way to work.

The service is to be offered on a pre-established route and will have instructors guiding the passengers through a 45-minute physical work out.

Buses will depart from 4 pick-up points in the north, south, east and west of the city and finish at the 1Rebel Studio in the city centre, where passengers can pop for a shower and a smoothie to freshen up before work.

With this innovative and ambitious project, 1Rebel aims to do away with the most common excuses that prevent people from working out, which include lack of time, not wanting to get up earlier than usual, or being too tired after work. With this new service, 1Rebel plans to maximise travelling time by taking advantage of these minutes that are often dead time.

One of the founders, James Balfour, said: “It is an absolute no-brainer for us that we can create more efficiency in people’s routines by transforming their commute.” “For those who want the components of a class, but perhaps don’t have the time to commit during the day, this provides a great solution for them to maximise the time they would otherwise be spending just travelling to work.”

Each bus ticket will cost between 15 and 19 euro. The company says its idea is to charge for the time customers are using the equipment and do away with mandatory monthly fees, so users would only pay for the class-route they take.

1Rebel hopes to have the buses on the streets of London before the end of 2017 and is currently in discussions with a number of bus companies who are interested in collaborating in the project.

At the moment the company is waiting for approval from the Government in London and is working to ensure the safety of the passengers. There are no specific regulations as it’s an entirely new and innovative service, so 1Rebel is working hard with the authorities and interested bus companies to comply with all the required health and safety standards.

Tied to the current trend in healthy living, it would be no surprise to see the gym on a bus concept spreading to other cities across the world in the not too distant future.
