AirSelfie: Say hello to your aerial photographer

AirSelfie: Say hello to your aerial photographer

Travelling has now become a ‘must’ and showing off your experiences even more so.

From digital cameras that allowed us to look at our snaps before sharing them to the changes in mobile phones with one or more built-in digital cameras, the need to take the ultimate photo showing our best and most daring side to the world has had a profound change on the way we store our snaps and share them on social networks,

Soon after the selfie stick came along, allowing us to take panoramic and group shots at arm’s length, and it seemed our problems had been solved. However, holidaymakers and adventurers have always faced one particular issue – capturing the perfect photo – whether it’s a dreamy landscape shot worthy or a pic with a large group of friends who have joined the adventure, we always need to capture not only the image but the experience too.

The Selfie Stick, always helping you to get the best photo

When technology is ahead of our time

And then, when we felt the selfie stick wasn’t enough, along came the AirSelfie: a small drone you can fly up to 20 meters above your location. To get it flying, you need to connect it to its built-in Wi-Fi hotspot via the AirSelfie app on your phone, and you’re ready to do justice to the wonderful landscapes that serve as a backdrop to all your adventures.

AirSelfie 2 is now available on both iOS and Android and comes in three different models, the AIR 100, AIR ZEN and the most recent AIR DUO. Still, improvements have been continuously made to the app and the AirSelfie itself since 2016.

The Air Selfie, small and light

The AirSelfie has evolved from being a 5-megapixel camera with 2.4GHz Wi-Fi, micro USB connector and a 4GB microSD slot, to now boasting a much higher resolution (12 megapixels), 16GB of storage in the microSD slot and a much-improved app, while still maintaining its compact size. The price has also improved. The first version cost about €360, while the newer version can now be bought for €200.

Although the AirSelfie has a stability controller, it’s still not what you’d expect after all the hype. Battery life could be better, as you can only keep the drone flying in the air for about 5 minutes and sometimes you lose the Wi-Fi connection when it’s in the air.

You can also make short HD videos, but keep in mind the battery time once you power it on. Its autonomy allows you to stop controlling it from your smartphone briefly and use functions like the face detector, which makes sure everyone finally appears in the photo.

Everybody will fit on the photo now.

The AirSelfie is within the price range of many travellers who want to capture and cherish the best moments of their trips and adventures. But the big question is, is it worth it? Opinions vary, some feel it could be so much more. In contrast, others see it as  a ‘must’ for capturing every moment and playing the leading part in the movie.
