Don’t call it a bus, call it a 7-seater SUV

Don’t call it a bus, call it a 7-seater SUV

You only have to see the sheer size of these vehicles to know that they’re capable of being the perfect travel companion if you have a large family or you want to travel with more space and comfort if you’re not the driver. Here, we present two examples, one is the Lexus RX L that’s less affordable, and the other is “cheaper” Subaru Ascent Concept. And just so you know, we’ve added the inverted commas to avoid any misunderstanding.

We start with the manufacturers in the land of the rising sun, Subaru. The Japanese company presented the Subaru Ascent Concept at the Los Angeles Auto Show (November 27th to December 10th, 2017).

The new three-row crossover is the successor to the popular Tribeca and comes with a third-row bench to bring seating capacity to seven. Dimensionally, it’s quite generous measuring 5.04m in length, 2m wide and 1.84m in height, meaning it becomes a contender in the market with the Audi Q7, the next BMW X7 and the Chevrolet Traverse.

This mechanical beast will be ready to go on the market in 2019 and will have the latest evolution of the Subaru Symmetrical All Wheel Drive full-time four wheel drive system, and the all new Boxer styled four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine.

Toyota’s high-end model, Lexus, has now also set its sights on the SUV market with the Lexus RX L at the North American auto show. The Japanese have increased the existing RX by 110mm, and it now comes with a third row of seats for two additional passengers to get its foot in the door in this market segment.

It comes as standard with seven seats and can also be converted into a six-seater. The brand maintains its hallmark identity on the outside, the large front grille, and the distinctive lateral and rear lines that Lexus has implemented in all its new models to popular acclaim.

Lexus has pointed out that the new RX L will have a 3.5 litre V6 with 294 horsepower (under the name RX 350L) and its hybrid drive adds two electric motors to the previously mentioned V6 producing 313 combined HP. In this case, the name changes slightly and will be called the Lexus RX 450h L.
