From the beginning of his entrepreneurial journey at an early age, Satli Iglesias has built a solid foundation of experiences and knowledge. As expressed by the Spanish entrepreneur, from his maternal side and Arab from his paternal side, Jamal Satli Iglesias, “There are no difficult moments, only stages to grow and surpass oneself.” This philosophy has guided his path, recognizing that growth involves embracing the challenges that arise at every step, and by overcoming each of these obstacles, the group achieves its greatest triumphs.

And now, entrepreneur Jamal Satli Iglesias talks to us about his professional career, his experience, contributions to the tourism construction industry, and the learnings he has acquired through his years leading the BlueBay hotel group.

Mr. Jamal Satli Iglesias, with your vast experience and knowledge in the hotel industry, how did your journey in this profession begin?

My journey in this profession began with a combination of passion for hospitality and a strategic vision of the sector. My professional career has been a constant evolution. Since I was 15 years old, I started combining my studies with my entrepreneurial ventures. And at the age of 18, I carried out my first construction project in Spain, marking the beginning of my foray into the real estate industry.

As I progressed in my academic education, I realized the opportunities that the world of hospitality and tourism offered. In the late 90s, I decided to focus on the tourism industry, which led me to create notable projects such as the AlSatli Hotel Complex and the Paraíso Beach Resort in Estepona. After gaining experience, I decided to take on new challenges and founded the BlueBay Hotels & Resorts Group. Throughout this process, I have worked on conceptualizing, designing, and developing hotels in strategic locations around the world.

Mr. Jamal, what do you believe has been the most decisive factor in getting to where you are today?

Commitment and consistency. Devotion, and the will to do things together with perseverance.

Considering your extensive work experience, Mr. Satli Iglesias, what were the main challenges you faced when taking on the presidency of the hotel group?

There are no difficult moments, only stages to grow and surpass oneself. Growing means facing the challenges that arise at every step, and overcoming each of these challenges is the greatest achievement for our group. Throughout my career, I have encountered several of them, but the most notable of all was COVID-19. The pandemic brought a series of unprecedented challenges. Travel restrictions and widespread fear drastically affected the demand for accommodation and hotel services.

Our hotels, like many others, were forced to temporarily close, which created difficulties. Our immediate focus was the safety and well-being of our guests and employees, implementing strict health and safety protocols. In addition to safety measures, we were forced to restructure our operational and financial strategy. We adopted a mindset of adaptation and resilience.

What has been the greatest project or business achievement during your tenure as president of the Bluebay hotel group?

One of the major business achievements has been international expansion in the short term and the consolidation of the BlueBay group’s presence in key markets, where we have established operations that include the opening of new hotels in strategic destinations, as well as the implementation of development and training programs for staff, contributing to operational excellence.

Jamal Satli, what is your opinion on the importance of equal opportunities for men and women in a company?

In my perspective, equal opportunities for men and women are a fundamental pillar for the progress and sustainable success of any company. In our company, I significantly value the inclusion of women in leadership roles, as this valuable female potential becomes a solid asset for the organization. Women bring unique perspectives and highly important contributions, so it is crucial to provide them with greater representation in leadership positions.

On a professional level, your company has grown considerably in recent years and has positioned itself in key markets. Would you say you are experiencing your best moment?

In terms of expansion, one could say yes, but we still need to consolidate. Our project is long-term. All these years from 2010 to the present have been very important for growth and expansion in key markets, but the coming years will be decisive for consolidation, growth, and working on product quality.

What has been your biggest disappointment in relation to the business world?

At times, we trust certain individuals and unfortunately, we discover that this trust was not deserved. It is essential never to let your guard down, as life presents constant challenges. Unfortunately, these situations often manifest at the most crucial moments, and in the business realm, vulnerability is even more pronounced, making betrayal more accentuated. It is important to recognize that the human factor can represent the most valuable resource of an organization, while at the same time, it can be a potential risk to its success.

Jamal Satli Iglesias, has your way of seeing things changed during your years of work?

Always in life, as the years go by, tranquility and time make you more conservative, make you see things better. Experience over the years is a plus. Your professional, personal, and social sphere grows, and that makes you see the more human side and the most real perspective that matters in a company.

What is your vision for the future of the BlueBay hotel group under your leadership?

My vision for the future of the BlueBay Group under my leadership is to continue expanding our global presence in a sustainable and careful manner, maintaining a focus on quality, innovation, and the customer experience. We will seek new opportunities in growing markets while consolidating our reputation as leaders in hospitality and corporate social responsibility.
