The destination has been awarded this important recognition at the World Travel Awards 2023.
Lisbon has been voted the Best Urban Destination in Europe at the 30th edition of the World Travel Awards 2023, held on 29 September in Batumi, Georgia. During the gala, several Lisbon venues were also honored.
The World Travel Awards, known internationally as the “Oscars of tourism”, distinguish each year the excellence achieved by destinations, hotel companies, airlines and other entities related to the tourism industry.
These awards, held annually since 1993, represent a seal of quality and prestige for those who stand out for offering the best in the sector worldwide.
Ricardo Clemente, a member of the board of directors of the Lisbon Tourism Association (ATL), accepted the award at the gala.
“This award reinforces Lisbon as a world capital. In the last two years, Lisbon has reaffirmed itself as a city that values and promotes its unique identity and traditions. These values have been recognized with the election of Lisbon as Europe’s Best Urban Destination, an award that belongs to the people of Lisbon and contributes to the growth of our local economy,” says Carlos Moedas, President of Lisbon City Council and ATL.
