Lisbon, the world’s second-largest congress city

In 2022 it accounted for 49% of the events of this type held nationally

According to the latest ICCA (International Congress and Convention Association) ranking, Lisbon was the second city in the world in 2022 for holding congresses, being only surpassed by Vienna and ranking ahead of Paris, which is in third place.
This ranking is based on a survey of more than 10,000 meetings worldwide by the international association. Last year, 144 events organised in the Portuguese capital were registered, representing 49% of all events at national level.
According to Paula Oliveira, director of Lisbon Tourism, “Lisbon is a world reference in this segment. In addition to all the work carried out by Turismo de Lisboa in attracting and accompanying tourists, the destination has several factors that justify its excellent position in the ICCA ranking: a privileged location, excellent connections, a wide range of infrastructure and top-quality professionals”. He also adds that “the transversality of cultural and leisure experiences that Lisbon offers makes any event memorable for those who organise it and for those who participate”.
